“It’s going to be quite a smokey show.” When smellivision finally comes out, you better believe this will be the first video I test it out with.

I personally am partial to the one where the Neon explodes.

I watched a goof in an older WRX trying to negotiate Seattle hills a while ago turn his clutch into acrid grey smoke... dude, handbrake...

They managed to break the block in half. I'm almost impressed by that.

Y’ know, i t’s been a while since I let the full 126 seconds play out. I usually just click the star upon seeing the thumbnail. LOL, what a classic.

Dude, it’s an A588 engine.
Solid cast iron monster that will stop a bullet. You should be very impressed.

This had to be a setup, right? The camera guy walked in front of the car twice, without the wheels spinning- he had to know what was happening.

The camera guy knew that the wheels weren’t spinning, but the driver obviously
didn’
t. I got a feeling that the camera guy was an idiot too, walking in front of the car like that.

Also, Subaru’s have had hillholders since at least the early ‘90s.

Even if it was a setup, you’d have to be a moron to walk in front of that car.

Yeah, he had to be an idiot to walk in front of the car. And I suppose maybe he thought the car had an open diff?
Thing is, the car barely moves - either the parking brake was set, or the driver was somehow heel and toeing while he rode the clutch? Maybe he thought the parking brake operated on the front wheels? It feels set up to me.

Oh, for sure.

Gotta post it for reference:

You can hear him pull the parking brake after he stops, so I doubt he used it during the “burnout”. He had to be heel-toeing, because how else do you do a big smoky burnout with a manual transmission? I guess
a line lock is
possible, but I
doubt it
.
But I get the opposite feeling, it doesn’t feel setup at all. There’s no real ego on display, no extreme emotions afterwards, no real payoff or “punchline”.
I also
get the feeling that the guy pretended to be more of a car guy than he really was. His phrasing was kind of odd, he didn’t seem that confident in starting the burnout, he popped the hatch when he tried to pop the hood, and he was driving a bright yellow Z06. From that, I’m betting that he has abused the clutch heavily in the short time he’s driven it. Add in the hesitant clutch release and the obviously hard on the brake technique, and he’s roasting the clutch, not the tires.

I guess it’s just that the one thing I was taught to never do is to ride the clutch, ever. So it just seems crazy to me.
On the other hand, it hadn’t occurred to me that if the clutch was worn enough that it just couldn’t overcome the brakes, this suddenly makes sense ( other than the camera guy walking in front of the car). It’s dumb either way.
